Uncomfortable contact lenses, such as those that existed forty years ago, thankfully are a thing of the past. While hard contact lenses are still available, they have been mostly replaced with soft contact lenses and hybrid lenses. We offer the latest types of contact lenses that are on the market and can get you fitted after an eye exam.

Various Types of Contact Lenses

Some people have simple vision problems like near-sightedness (myopia) and far-sightedness (hyperopia). For them, contact lens prescriptions are relatively simple. For other vision issues, special lenses can be used to provide vision correction.

Astigmatism is when the cornea ie. the clear front layer of the eye has an irregular shape which can cause blurred and distorted vision . Modern toric contact lenses can correct for astigmatism.

Keratoconus is when the cornea becomes thinner and bulges forming a cone shape. Changing the shape of the cornea causes vision to be distorted and blurred. Hard lenses like RGP lenses and speciality contact lenses like scleral lenses can be used to provide good vision and in some cases better vision than glasses can provide.

Do you wear bifocal or progressive glasses because of presbyopia? There are also contact lenses that you can be fitted with that can provide you with clear and comfortable vision that are called multi-focal contact lenses.

A Contact Lens Exam Is Different

The exact shape of your eye is far more important in fitting contact lenses than for glasses, we will measure the curvature of the eye and the optometrist will also do a tear film evaluation because contact lenses require sufficient moisture.

Once our optometrist recommends a suitable prescription and lens type, you will then be taught how to use and take care of your contacts. There would be a trial period for certain types of contact lenses to give you the most effective vision correction.
